A couple of events for your diary …

Saturday, 21 March 2020 at Rowton Hall, 11am until 4pm – Sustainable Spring Fair

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Waste team are currently focusing on textiles and how climate change is affected by fast fashion.  The way we make, use and throw away our clothes is unsustainable. Textile production contributes more to climate change than international aviation and shipping combined, consumes lake-sized volumes of fresh water and creates chemical and plastic pollution. Synthetic fibres can be found in the deep sea, in Arctic sea ice, in fish and shellfish.

We like to think that we do our bit to recycle old clothes whether this is at local charity shops or at the kerbside but in reality there is a lot more we can do. With this in mind, we would like to invite you to a ‘Sustainable Spring Fair’ at Rowton Hall in Chester on Saturday 21 March 2020. The event is open from 11am to 4pm for you browse around the small traders selling their sustainable products, attend workshops about mending clothes and being creative with textiles, demonstrations and find out what you can do to reduce the amount of clothes you throw away.

Wednesday, 25th March, 4pm until 8pm at Town Hall – Chester Northgate

A ‘drop-in’ event is being held in the Palatine Room when residents and businesses will be able to ask questions about the Chester Northgate programme including the forthcoming drainage tunnel works.

Coffee and cake at the Interiors Shop.

Just received this news:

Good evening friends and neighbours…

Just wanted to let everyone know that our new cafe area is now open and will be serving freshly ground illy coffee, Brew Tea Company loose leaf teas and homemade cakes by Patticakepop from 8.30am every weekday (9am on Saturday) ☕️

We can also fill your reusable cup if you prefer take away or you can buy your own on-the-go mug in store (in an attempt to reduce waste we aren’t supplying disposable cups but we’re happy to fill yours for take away drinks) ♻️

Once the weather perks up we’ll be opening up the courtyard and don’t forget we’re #dogfriendly

If you wouldn’t mind spreading the word that would be greatly appreciated

Work about to start on Hunter Street and Town Hall Square

Please be aware that works are taking place on Hunter Street and Town Hall Square in February in connection with the Northgate development.

The east part of Hunter Street will be closed during February for approx.  4 – 6 weeks as works on utility diversions such as gas, electric, BT and new drainage works for the Northgate Development are carried out.  Princess Street will remain open to traffic and will be used as a diversion route whilst this work is undertaken, allowing access to businesses and residents in lower Hunter Street.

Traffic and pedestrians will be able to access property and businesses on Hunter Street at all times.

The footpath will remain open.

There will also be utility works such as electric and BT taking place on Town Hall Square during February. This work will be undertaken by SP Energy Networks and Openreach. Sections of the work area will be cordoned off whilst this work is being undertaken.

We apologise for any disruption this may cause. If you have any concerns, or would like to discuss further, then please contact me directly.

Please complete survey on Anti-social Behaviour in Chester

Westminster Park Residents’ Association is a member of the Chester Residents’ Associations Group (CRAG) which has identified Chester city centre anti-social behaviour as one of its key issues. Problems around drug use, street drinking and begging seem particularly prevalent.

To help better understand how ASB is influencing how residents use the city centre, we would like you to complete this short survey.  The results will be collated and shared with Cheshire West & Chester Council (CW&C) and Cheshire Police to help them to understand the impact that ASB is having in order to direct resources more effectively.

The survey should take 6-8 minutes to complete and we recommend that you complete this on a device larger than a smartphone. A similar questionnaire is being conducted by CH1ChesterBID to Chester businesses as a joint approach with CRAG to understand this issue from an overall point of view.

CH1ChesterBID represents nearly 500 city centre businesses and aims to make Chester a retail, business and leisure destination of choice where people are proud to live, work and visit. This aligns strongly with CRAG’s ambition to make Chester a better place for all.
The link to the questionnaire is shown below; the more input received, the greater the impact of the findings.  Please find the time to complete this survey about our city.
The closing date is 29th February – and the results will of course be shared.

Your individual input will remain anonymous unless you give your specific permission.

Festive fun at Christmas Lights Switch-on

Great fun had was by all at the Westminster Park Christmas Lights Switch-on which took place on Thursday 5th December.

The Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Mark Williams, lead the countdown assisted by two members of the Belgrave Primary School choir.  Once the lights had been switched on the choir entertained the crowd of local residents with a selection of Christmas songs.

Refreshments were provided by the Westminster Park shops – mince pies from the Co-op, hot dogs from Bebbington’s butchers, pizza by Al Forno and prawns from Bebbington & Williams fishmongers.  The Westminster Park Residents’ Association supplied juice and mulled wine.

We are most grateful to our local councillors Neil Sullivan and Razia Daniels for providing funding from their Members’ Budgets to assist with the purchase of new lights for the trees opposite the shops and a beautiful Christmas tree, supplied by Francis Thomas, greengrocers.
